Welcome to the OpenSea digest. Let’s look back through the biggest NFT and web3 news of the week.

Jack Butcher and Snowfro Collaborate on ‘Snowpepen’

Renowned generative artist Erick Calderon, aka “Snowfro,” and Checks and Opepen creator Jack Butcher, have joined forces. The Opepen x Chromie Squiggles collaboration resulted in a dynamic series of interactive "squiggle-fied" Opepens that honor the significance of Calderon’s role in web3 generative art.

Collectors in the space are calling this collaboration a “historic event” that pays homage to Chromie Squiggles, one of ArtBlock’s most prominent collections.

Azuki Drops Special Edition Sweatshirt

On October 31st, Azuki announced a collaboration with SATOSHI NAKAMOTO to release a special edition Enduro hoodie sweatshirt. The catch? It’s only available to Azuki Spirit holders.

Spirits are a specific trait within the Azuki collection that only encompass 0.97% of the NFTs within the collection.

Maison Margiela Enters Web3

Maison Margiela, the renowned French fashion house celebrated for its avant-garde designs, unveiled its first foray into the world of web3 with a gamified minting experience. This unique initiative revolves around Maison Margiela's distinctive numeric labels, a core element of its visual identity.

The fashion house has designed a gamified minting platform to engage its clientele, allowing users to mint soulbound tokens directly linked to Maison Margiela's signature numbered labels during a time-based competition.

The competition, set to run for several weeks, challenges participants to collect all 24 tokens, numbered from 0 to 23. Each token minted resets a countdown timer for all users, intensifying the competition while ensuring fairness. These tokens are rumored to play a crucial role in Maison Margiela's upcoming web3 initiatives, although specific details remain undisclosed.

Players can immerse themselves in this experience through the brand’s custom gamified website. The collectible digital tokens adhere to the ERC-1155 standard but come with a unique twist: they are Polygon soulbound tokens. Each wallet can only mint a single collectible per number. In this fast-paced game, only the quickest participant can successfully mint a token if multiple players attempt to mint the same one simultaneously.

The game also allocates an equal amount of gas to each player for every transaction, ensuring a level playing field by eliminating the gas fees. The competition will conclude when the first 100 participants successfully mint and collect the entire set.

Michelin 3xplorers Club Reveal

Michelin, the 134-year-old tire brand that created the iconic Michelin Guide has officially joined web3. The multinational tire manufacturer Michelin ventured into the world of NFTs earlier this year with the launch of the Michelin 3xplorer Club, and the company recently revealed the official artwork featuring its mascot, The Michelin Man.

The Michelin Man digital items are available on OpenSea. Members of the 3xplorer community will receive access to exclusive experiences, such as Michelin-starred restaurant visits and racing events.

This marks the first phase of Michelin's web3 strategy, emphasizing innovation and, according to the company website, underlining its commitment to facilitating mobility for all. Collaborating with web3 and NFT specialists, Michelin aims to create new customer experiences while strengthening its community bonds.

Frame Will Deploy L2 on Arbitrum Nitro Stack

Frame, an NFT-focused L2 blockchain, has announced its strategic move to deploy its forthcoming L2 solution on the Arbitrum Nitro Stack, signifying what many believe will be a significant step in enhancing the platform's capabilities.

As a creator-focused ecosystem, Frame builds tools designed to support NFT creators and collectors at the protocol level through native features like automatic royalties and NFT delegation. With its decision to launch on Arbitrum, developers can build applications through Arbitrum Stylus and bake permissionless fraud-proof validation into their designs with a dispute protocol known as Bounded Liquidity Delay (BoLD).

Partnering with Arbitrum also comes with a commitment by Frame to allocate a portion of its sequencing fees to the Arbitrum DAO, demonstrating its dedication to fostering a strong partnership with Arbitrum.

Sound.xyz Now Allows Users to Gift Songs

If you like Spotify Duo, listen up: Sound.xyz, a web3 music platform backed by Snoop Dogg and other notable investors, has introduced its first multiplayer feature called Gifts.

As the name suggests, users can now directly gift songs to others on the platform. To send a gift, users just need to visit a song on Sound, locate the gift icon on the collect panel, enter their friend's wallet address or ENS, and complete the checkout process.

The new Gifts feature facilitates sharing music and creating mixtape-like experiences on the blockchain, serving various purposes such as introducing friends to Sound, rewarding collectors, organizing competitions, or simply sending music NFTs as a social interaction. It also offers a secure way to mint and transfer assets between wallets with reduced gas fees.

Want more from Sound.xyz? The platform hinted at more social features on the horizon, tweeting “Keep your eyes open tomorrow because we’ve got an even bigger feature rolling out. 👀”

OpenSea Introduces New, Richer Storytelling on Collection Pages

To date, OpenSea collection pages have highlighted items and stats – but left little room for creators to tell the story of their collection(s). With this update, OpenSea is introducing a dedicated tab on the collection page where creators can bring their work to life for collectors.

New collection pages are easy to update, flexible, and support a variety of rich new storytelling components including video, images, featured NFTs and collections, FAQs and more. Creators no longer have to worry about building out their own destinations, which often require support from engineers and designers, and collectors no longer have to dig around for additional information— starting today, it can all exist right on OpenSea.
