A year ago, we made a decision that would reshape OpenSea's future: to rebuild everything from the ground up. Not just our technology and features but who our company is at its core. It wasn't the easy choice, but it was the right one. We've spent the past year reimagining every aspect of our business, and today, we’re proud to introduce OS2 — the most significant evolution in OpenSea's history. OS2 is a faster, sleeker platform built by a lean, crypto-native team that talks to our users every single day.

The platform includes upgrades to every surface on the marketplace, giving our users a faster and more seamless experience for NFTs and tokens all in one place, and includes new chains, better ways to search and explore, marketplace aggregation, cross-chain purchasing, and lower fees at launch. 

So what is OS2? It’s a one-stop shop for everything onchain. Your gateway to web3. Tokens and NFTs. All on one platform.

And none of this would have been possible without our beta testers. Over the past few months, a dedicated group of you have been pressure-testing our new platform, active in Discord, showing us opportunities to make the platform the best it can be. To our beta crew: thank you.

OS2 at a glance

OS2 introduces things like:

• Updated core functionality — improved search, sorting, and discovery tools via a new traits tab, explore tab, and more
• NFTs and tokens in one place — access to fungible token swaps via integrated liquidity aggregators 
• New chains — with additional chains being added frequently
• Cross-chain purchasing — allowing users to buy NFTs and tokens across multiple blockchains without needing to manually swap or bridge
• Aggregated marketplace listings — helping users source the best prices
• Live data & analytics — color-coded rarity, real-time updates, and in-depth stats
• Enhanced user experience — homepage redesign, faster navigation, wallet sidebar, and real-time notifications
• Rewards (XP) — a program designed to benefit users of the platform

Upgrading the core

When we built OS2, we focused on elevating core functionality. We made bread-and-butter improvements to the foundation of the product that deliver impactful benefits across the platform.

We did things like redesign our entire navigation experience because finding exactly what you’re looking for should feel effortless. You can now sort collections by floor price, top offer, chain, and category. You can quickly learn more about a collection directly in search — from items and tokens to related accounts.

OS2 comes with more in-depth stats and charts and color-coded rarity, all in a live feed that updates automatically. You can navigate more efficiently using shortcuts to access features like the leaderboard and stats page. Track your wallet activity and portfolio in your wallet sidebar or from your profile. Whenever you complete a transaction on OS2, you'll receive an in-app notification, helping you track and manage activity.

Introducing ERC20 tokens and access to aggregated liquidity

One of the biggest updates to OpenSea is that OS2 introduces the ability to swap tokens. Now, you can seamlessly access both NFTs and tokens all in one place via integrated liquidity aggregators. This means you can discover, buy, and sell both NFTs and ERC20 tokens using OpenSea. OS2 connects you to third-party liquidity aggregators, which source liquidity from major DEXs and AMMs across the ecosystem, helping you find competitive prices for your token swaps.

This update transforms OpenSea into a comprehensive web3 marketplace, giving you the tools and access to liquidity you need to manage everything in one place. 

New chains

In addition to the existing chains that are compatible with OpenSea, Flow, ApeChain, Berachain, and Soneium are joining the crew. Keep your eyes peeled for even more chains coming.

Cross-chain purchasing

With cross-chain purchasing, you can buy NFTs and tokens across multiple chains without needing to manually bridge or swap. For example, you can use the ETH in your wallet to purchase NFTs on any supported chain, making buying seamless across multiple chains. Now all the complexity happens behind the scenes.

Unveiling XP 

OS2 introduces rewards to the platform in the form of XP, our new system for recognizing and rewarding active users. Starting today with Wave 1, users can begin earning XP through select activities on OS2 like creating and maintaining active listings and placing collection offers on eligible NFT collections. XP updates throughout the day, reflecting real-time activity. Wave 1 of XP earnings starts today. Track your progress directly from your profile page, where you can see your current XP score and activity history. 

$SEA Token

Today marks another milestone: the OpenSea Foundation has announced the upcoming launch of $SEA, a token designed to support engagement within the NFT and broader crypto ecosystem. $SEA holders will be able to utilize the token on OS2.

While the Foundation hasn’t yet released details on the timing of $SEA, they’ll be taking learnings from the space and focusing the token’s utility on driving long-term sustainability. $SEA will also act as a new means to recognize active and loyal users of the platform, as well as historical users who have been part of the OpenSea community since its inception.

Future of OS2 

OS2 isn’t just about a new product, it’s a new OpenSea. Today might be the culmination of many months of work, but this is just the beginning. We're building for the long term with a roadmap that extends far beyond today's launch. Our vision is to create the most powerful and accessible platform for digital assets for everyone from casual collectors to seasoned pros. 

In the next few weeks and months, you’ll see rapid iteration, expansions, and updates to OS2. We're already working on integrating new chains, expanding accessible tokens, and developing features that will make managing your digital assets even more seamless. Most importantly though, we’re building with your input. The way you use the platform and your feedback will help shape its future.
