Welcome to the OpenSea digest. Let’s look back through the biggest NFT and web3 news of the week.

‘The Simpsons’ Releases NFT Episode

A recent episode of "The Simpsons” satirically explores the NFT world and highlights web3 in a comedic light.

Things kick off with a quintessentially crypto dilemma when Homer inadvertently mints his son Bart as an NFT on the blockchain

Homer's initial dismay upon realizing he turned Bart into an NFT is quickly replaced by elation when he realizes the Bart NFT’s $1.5 million valuation. Marge, on the other hand, is horrified to find her son is an NFT and embarks on a rescue mission to save him.

The episode references prominent NFT collections such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, Doodles, Beeple, and Dmitri Cherniak's "Ringers," among others.

Overall, the episode — part of the show’s annual Halloween-themed “Treehouse of Horror” anthology series — adds a comedic twist to how we view NFTs, helping us all remain lighthearted and keep things in perspective.

MoonPay Now Supports Base

MoonPay, the cryptocurrency payment platform, has recently announced its support for Base, a Coinbase-backed Ethereum L2 platform. The partnership marks a significant development for builders and cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

The MoonPay x Base collaboration offers a convenient onramp for those interested in building on Base. It also creates new opportunities and options for individuals and businesses involved in cryptocurrency activities, enhancing accessibility and ease of use.

New Subscription Token Protocol (STP) Enables Time-Based Crypto Payments

A new token protocol, the Subscription Token Protocol (STP), has been introduced as an extension of the ERC-721 standard, enhancing NFTs with the ability to code time-based recurring revenue.

Using the STP, creators or businesses can deploy subscription NFT contracts on-chain, specifying subscription durations and prices.

Rather than sharing a credit card and agreeing to a recurring monthly charge, consumers can simply purchase subscription NFTs using the STP and unlock access to exclusive content or services until the subscription expires. STPs can also include mechanisms for subscriber rewards, referral rewards, and partner rewards to incentivize membership and user retention.

The protocol takes a 4% fee on all subscriptions. Anyone building out use cases that facilitate deployment of an STP can receive 50% of the protocol fee. The introduction of STPs can hopefully help create a sustainable model for recurring revenue on the blockchain and address the limitations of existing NFTs and tokens.

XCOPY Mints REMNANTS for Rare Pass Holders

NFT artist XCOPY has dropped a new monthly artwork for holders of his Rare Pass. On November 2, the London-based digital artist airdropped 250 one-of-one REMNANTS into holders’ wallets.

One of the original crypto artists, XCOPY is known for his unique style and distinctive fusion of glitch art and crypto themes in visually chaotic loops. Having gained internet fame on the microblogging platform Tumblr, he has since embraced NFTs and CC0 licensing, leading to increased awareness of his work and fan-driven derivative collections.

Yuga Labs Hosted ApeFest in Hong Kong This Weekend

The aftermath of ApeFest Hong Kong 2023 left most attendees sharing happy memories on Crypto Twitter — while some nursed eye pain.

Overall, the Yuga Labs event showcased an exciting blend of digital art and luxury branding. However, chaos tinged the experience when afterwards several attendees reported UV-induced eye pain and vision problems due to UV stage lighting.

Nonetheless, the NFT extravaganza marked Yuga Labs’ first venture outside the US. The event drew over 2,000 attendees from 60 countries to Hong Kong and celebrated the growing web3 community worldwide.
