Welcome to the OpenSea digest. Let’s look back through the biggest NFT and web3 news of the week.

BeraTone begins private playtesting

Online multiplayer gaming project BeraTone launched its first private playtest on the Berachain blockchain, available exclusively to holders of the Founder’s Sailcloth NFT.

According to the announcement, the playtest marks the beginning of a multi-phase play-to-earn rollout designed to reward early participants. Players can access the game through a link shared in the project’s Discord server. This initial phase offers a chance to test gameplay mechanics and provide feedback.

The full BeraTone game is being built in stages. Future updates are expected to expand the playable world, but in the meantime early community responses on X have focused on the game’s design, humor, and lore.

Futureverse acquires Candy Digital to expand NFT fan experiences

Futureverse, a New Zealand-based AI and metaverse infrastructure company, has acquired Candy Digital, a startup known for creating licensed digital collectibles with brands like Major League Baseball, Netflix, and DC Comics.

The deal brings Candy’s extensive library (more than 4 million NFTs and over 1.5 million user accounts) into Futureverse’s layer-one (L1) blockchain platform, The Root Network. The ecosystem allows brands to build custom digital experiences with built-in tools for copyright protection.

Futureverse says the goal is to help well-known brands use its AI and web3 tools to develop more engaging digital content across sports, entertainment, and culture.

Finalbosu NFT collection sells out in public mint

Finalbosu, an anime-inspired web3 project founded by a team of independent creators, sold out its public mint of all 3,445 NFTs on April 14 in under six minutes.

The sale, which happened on the Abstract blockchain, used a first-come, first-served model with NFTs priced at 0.134 ETH (approximately $220 at the time of this writing).

The project had already conducted two pre-sale phases in March, which allowed early supporters and holders of the previous Legacy collection to reserve NFTs at a lower price.

Finalbosu was created by three brothers—Jevin, Jeff, and artist Mustayaki—along with their longtime collaborator John. The storyline follows characters who are reborn without memories of past lives and must activate five emotional “nodes” to face a final form, known as the Final Bosu. The Final Bosu is a manifestation of their deepest fears.

So far, the team has introduced five central characters and says it plans to expand the project into games, animation, and merch.

Community-built ‘Zoopepen’ drops Opepen set 071

A group of about 25 independent NFT creators released the 71st set in the Opepen collection. Dubbed “Zoopepen,” the set features 80 Opepen-style animal portraits created in a collaborative process that began spontaneously on X.

Artists started by posting animal-themed Opepen variations, which were later refined in a shared group chat and Figma file. The final result is a playful digital menagerie in Jack Butcher’s signature Opepen style.

Decentraland holds third annual Metaverse Fashion Week

Popular browser-based metaverse world Decentraland wrapped its third annual Metaverse Fashion Week on April 12 with a closing set by Coppola, a Brazilian house music DJ known in the web3 scene.

The four-day event featured virtual runway shows, digital fashion wearables, and community-led gatherings between scheduled programming. Designers ranged from independent creators to established global fashion brands, with exhibitions and performances accessible to participants’ avatars.

People joined from around the world using either crypto wallets or guest logins. This year’s programming emphasized creativity, accessibility, and self-expression. The event inspired a flurry of enthusiastic responses on social media, where users shared clips of digital dance parties and praised the immersive, inclusive environment.

MoonPay launches accelerator to support early-stage web3 startups

MoonPay, a Miami-based crypto payments company, has launched MoonPay Labs, a new accelerator designed to support early-stage web3 startups with product guidance, marketing support, and pre-seed capital.

Unlike traditional cohort-based programs, MoonPay Labs will accept up to five technical teams per year on a rolling basis and provide ongoing, year-round support.

The first startup to join the program is MoonGate, a wallet tool that lets users purchase memecoins instantly with credit or debit cards.
