As part of the “Get Based” campaign, Subwway created a piece of artwork that makes viewers rethink the boundaries between past, present, and future.
In the process of creating this art, Subwway had the feeling that the main character acts as a traveler and explorer who returned home after completing the entire cycle with accumulated experience. An old motif, but with new features in the form of Base.
Check out the drop here.
OpenSea: Could you introduce us to your art style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?
Subwway: Hey! As an artist, I study and combine various timelines, cultural symbols, technological epochs and my own experience into a single frame, forcing viewers to rethink the boundaries between the past, present and future.
OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT collection or piece?
Subwway: For me, the process has turned more into a mathematical approach, having the topic of interest to me as constants and the tone of the narrative, style, colors and format as variables that I periodically change. Having the main theme as a starting point, I fill my work with small references and signs of what is happening in the world or local things right now. I try to give more depth to the idea with these references, so that it would be interesting to watch longer.

OpenSea: Can you discuss any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, specifically for the digital realm of NFTs?
Subwway: The first thing I encountered was intermittent problems when uploading big animations to IPFS. Sometimes I had to burn the works several times, but they still hung in the profile. But this is all experience, now everything has become more stable.
Secondly, there is so little time in the day. I thought that when I became a full-time artist, I would work less, but I like it even more!
OpenSea: What motivated you to create on Base? How do you think Base's features will benefit your artistic expression?
Subwway: The most obvious thing is the price of gas. I remember a time when it could take $300 to mint and list art and it was a big barrier to digitalizing works. Or if the network is overloaded, you had to pay twice as much for a mint. Base has removed this barrier! And, of course, a really cool community is forming around Base, so this is another big driver of motivation to work more in this network.
OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you approach art creation?
Subwway: I have been drawing all my adult life, but after starting to create NFTs and getting to know the community, I began to really understand how huge the world is, but everything around is closer than it seemed. I have received a huge boost in skills, storytelling, and networking over the past years and it is incredibly motivating to continue doing this.

OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through your NFTs on OpenSea? Are there any interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?
Subwway: Something is really hidden inside. There are some things that I don't show on the surface and give time to judge whether they should appear or not. Almost every work lately is a statement or just an emotion directed at our community.
OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you the most, and how do you plan to incorporate these into your future projects?
Subwway: At the moment, everything suits me, if we talk about the concept of NFTs as a certification of digital works.
If we talk about specific points, I would like to work with loading html into IPFS more.

OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collection?
Subwway: Patience, periodicity and respect for yourself and others. That's all it takes. Any creativity is wonderful and it will definitely find its audience.
OpenSea: Where do you see the future of digital art and NFTs heading in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?
Subwway: A couple of years ago, I couldn't imagine how much the industry would get ahead, so I'm looking forward to the future! In turn, I am doing everything to popularize the NFT as a cool tool!
