Onchain art maxi and generative artist, dailofrog, perhaps best known for their collection Tiny Based Frogs, has created a fully onchain real-time generative grass simulation on Base that vividly simulates the tranquility of a moving grass field. One Summer Day is a piece about feelings of hope, nostalgia, and a yearning for that perfect summer day.

OpenSea: Could you introduce us to your art style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?
dailofrog: My artistic journey is centered around pushing the boundaries of innovation by creating 100% fully onchain generative artworks and social experiences. I explore themes that resonate with human emotional responses evoked by natural forms, movement, colors, scenes, and composition. I also find joy in designing complex interactive onchain concepts, particularly those combining game theory, incentives, technical craft and artistry.
OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT collection or piece?
dailofrog: My creative process often begins in a meditative state, where I mentally teleport myself into imaginary scenes of geometric forms that evoke some personal emotion or nostalgia. For One Summer Day, I drew a lot of inspiration from classic Ghibli films, which I've been watching intensely with my daughter this summer. This piece encapsulates feelings of hope, nostalgia, and a yearning for that perfect summer day when everything falls into place.
OpenSea: Can you discuss any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, specifically for the digital realm of NFTs?
dailofrog: Creating artworks and experiences that exist fully onchain comes with its own technical challenges. Unlike traditional artists who can simply upload their work (onto a third party like IPFS/Arweave/etc), I am committed to ensuring that my pieces live forever onchain. Too many times have I been burnt in the past and I have emerged from the darkness as a grizzled onchain maxi, committing myself to never settle on third-party offchain storage providers. However, doing so is non-trivial and requires extra steps in engineering solidity smart contracts that deliver the artwork entirely from the network. I believe in the decentralized fully onchain future of digital art, and preserving art’s existence as long as the chain endures.
OpenSea: What motivated you to create on Base? How do you think Base's features will benefit your artistic expression?
dailofrog: I’ve been gigabullish on Base ever since their initial announcement in 2022 —an Ethereum-aligned L2 led by Coinbase felt like a no-brainer to me. In fact, we were so excited that we launched Tiny Based Frogs, [one of] Base’s first NFT collections and first fully onchain collections. Base has cultivated a vibrant artist and collector ecosystem, and as it scales, I believe it will play a central role in the broader cultural adoption of crypto. You can view my other onchain projects here.
OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you approach art creation?
dailofrog: Coming from Web2 and games, I’ve seen the impact of broken links and dead servers. There is a statistic that 67% of links are currently dead, and old games no longer function due to dead servers. It is estimated that 96% of websites will cease to exist within a decade. Since incentives are not aligned, and the desire for services or creators to continuously pay for storage fades over time. Onchain technology allows for permanence of content; fully onchain artworks can persist indefinitely, as long as the chain exists.
OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through your NFTs on OpenSea? Are there any interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?
dailofrog: One Summer Day is purely an onchain art piece, with no roadmap or utility attached. Instead of following trends, I aim to continue bringing innovative works onchain, and value (or at the very least, new ideas) to the community.
OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you the most, and how do you plan to incorporate these into your future projects?
dailofrog: I believe that the future of games and the metaverse, though often misrepresented, still holds great potential. While these terms may be seen as cliché, especially in the crypto space, I believe there is an untapped way to express these ideas, and I hope to capture that in future projects. More to be announced.
OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collection?
dailofrog: Create works that resonate with you and that you believe in. Don’t chase trends, as they are fleeting. Be honest in your expression, and build a community and collector base that aligns with your vision. If you chase trends, people will go as quickly as they came.
OpenSea: Where do you see the future of digital art and NFTs heading in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?
dailofrog: The traditional format of static JPEG NFTs is dead. The future lies in dynamic expressions of onchain activity. I aim to continue developing thoughtful and innovative products that push the boundaries of what’s possible in digital art and NFTs.
