Capi, a Franco-Spanish artist, began his artistic journey at the age of twelve. By fourteen, his passion for street art flourished, leading him to paint vibrant and dynamic pieces on the streets of Paris. Transitioning from street art to art school and from using spray cans to acrylic on canvas, he eventually embraced digital art, which is now his primary focus.

Capi's work is a compelling blend of spontaneous cubist and abstract geometric compositions. It reflects personal memories and emotions, frequently incorporating themes of relationships, personal experiences, and cultural symbols. Known for its vibrant colors and dynamic forms, Capi blends elements of traditional art with contemporary digital techniques.

OpenSea: Could you introduce us to your art style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?

Capi: My art style is a blend of geometric abstraction and cubism, heavily influenced by my personal experiences and memories. Growing up in a family of artists, particularly inspired by my grandmother, who was a moderately recognized painter in France and Spain, I developed a deep appreciation for abstract and spontaneous expression. The main themes I explore and work on are personal emotions and lived moments. Additionally, I reinterpret the works of great masters in my own way, striving to give them a new life in a more contemporary and modern context through my art.

OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT collection or piece?

Capi: All my art is hand-drawn using the Figma tool, a tool I discovered and learned to master when I worked as a designer a few years ago. My compositions are based on spontaneity. Often, I start with one shape and then add another, and so on, until I have a composition that I find visually pleasing or that conveys the message I want to share. I begin by drawing the shapes, assembling them into a composition that I like, and then I add colors to specific shapes one by one to create the message I want to express.

The ideation phase is the most important for me because I need to find a way to express myself while maintaining my artistic logic and identity.

OpenSea: Can you discuss any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, specifically for the digital realm of NFTs?

Capi: Creating art for the digital realm presents both unique challenges and opportunities. One challenge is ensuring that the digital representation of my work captures the same depth and emotion as physical art. However, this also provides an opportunity to explore new dimensions and interactive elements that traditional art cannot offer. The digital space allows me to reach a global audience and engage with them in innovative ways. Additionally, the permanence and transparency of blockchain technology ensure that my work is authenticated and its provenance is secure.

OpenSea: What motivated you to create on Base? How do you think Base's features will benefit your artistic expression?

Capi: My main motivation for creating on Base is curiosity. I love discovering, exploring, and not settling for what I already know. I typically mint my art on the Ethereum mainnet, and Base is the best Layer 2 solution for Ethereum, in my opinion. Minting costs are reduced, and transactions are more accessible. The position of the Base chain, being one of the most active and growing, is also a significant advantage for me. As I like to say, it's essential to adapt and keep up with the times. By leveraging Base's capabilities, I can push the boundaries of my art and explore new ways to engage with my audience.

OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you approach art creation?

Capi: Blockchain technology has revolutionized my approach to art creation by providing a transparent and secure method for verifying and selling my work. It has opened up new avenues for reaching collectors and building a community around my art. The ability to mint NFTs and ensure their authenticity has given me greater control over my creations and their distribution. Blockchain's decentralized nature aligns with my belief in the democratization of art, allowing more artists to thrive without traditional gatekeepers.

OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through your NFTs on OpenSea? Are there any interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?

Capi: To be frank, I already connect significantly with my collectors, with most of my collections being traded on the secondary market on OpenSea. OpenSea is a means for me to expand my community and collector base. I already do this, but I want to do more (working on some physical ways to engage a new audience and link it to my existing one, working on my own art-based clothing brand too etc...).

I aim to foster a community by offering exclusive content, behind-the-scenes insights, and opportunities for collectors to participate in the creative process. By building a strong connection with my audience, I hope to create a vibrant and supportive ecosystem around my work.

OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you the most, and how do you plan to incorporate these into your future projects?

Capi: The most exciting future developments in the NFT space include enhanced interoperability between different blockchain platforms and the rise of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs). These innovations will enable more interactive and engaging art experiences. I plan to incorporate these technologies into my future projects by collaborating with other artists and providing new opportunities for creative expression and community involvement, which is most important to me regarding art on the blockchain. I feel that we are not yet fully exploiting blockchain technology and the opportunities it offers. It's up to us to find ways and think of incentives to make the most of it.

I also believe there is a powerful connection to be made between a token, an artistic work on the blockchain in the form of a token, and physical works or initiatives. I am exploring this avenue and working on it, and we will see what it can bring.

OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collection?

Capi: For artists new to the digital art space, my advice is to start by understanding the technology and the marketing aspects involved in being a digital artist. Engage with other artists and collectors, learn from their experiences, and build a network. Focus on creating high-quality, authentic work that reflects your unique style and vision. Be patient and persistent, as building a presence in this space takes time. Finally, leverage social media and online platforms to promote your work and connect with your audience. Stay curious and open to learning; we are constantly evolving.

Classic #14

OpenSea: Where do you see the future of digital art and NFTs heading in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?

Capi: In the next five years, I see digital art and NFTs becoming more mainstream, with greater acceptance and integration into everyday life. The development of more sophisticated technologies will enhance the interactivity and immersion of digital art. NFTs will likely become a standard for verifying and trading digital assets across various industries. However, it is difficult for me to speculate too much, as I live very much in the moment, even though I try to plan and anticipate what surrounds me. I am mainly focused on developing myself and my art, my creativity—regardless of the means, to be honest with you.

I believe in this technology, and I think that we, as artists, are contributing to making it mainstream. By continuing to create, innovate, and engage with the community, I hope to play a part in shaping the future of digital art and NFTs.

Thanks for your time, it's a pleasure to collaborate with such an entity and to have a way to express myself and speak about my art.
