Jhekub's creative process involves the cultivation of multiple programs and the layering of information in a mixed media fashion. "Get Based" merges Jhekub’s deep enthusiasm for architecture, love of LEGO blocks, and the playful, evolving nature of meme culture, all framed within amusing web3 jargon. This project explores how these diverse elements can form a cohesive and compelling narrative while celebrating Base as an accessible and necessary layer to bring more people on-chain.

OpenSea: Could you introduce us to your art style and the main themes you explore in your artwork?

Jhekub: My art style is deeply influenced by my architectural background, which drives me to explore three-dimensional concepts and spatial dynamics. I like to merge these architectural elements with themes from memetic culture and emotion. This fusion allows me to create pieces that not only engage visually but also provoke thought and evoke emotional responses. By blending the structural and the emotional, my work aims to bridge the gap between the tangible world of buildings and the intangible realm of human experience.

OpenSea: Can you walk us through your creative process when developing an NFT collection or piece?

Jhekub: When developing an NFT collection or piece, I typically begin with an idea inspired by my real-world architectural practice or an association triggered by something I've seen. Initially, my process is fluid and iterative, involving quick tests in 2D using simple linework and color. As the concept evolves, I transition to building 3D models, envisioning a specific scene.

My creative process involves the cultivation of multiple programs and the layering of information in a mixed media fashion. I integrate various digital tools and techniques, allowing me to experiment with textures, forms, and lighting to achieve the desired effect. I always choose the program or medium that best expresses the idea, ensuring that each element aligns with the overarching vision. This multi-faceted approach provides the flexibility to adapt my style, ensuring that the art is not confined to a single aesthetic and can fully realize the initial inspiration.

OpenSea: Can you discuss any unique challenges or opportunities you encounter when creating art, specifically for the digital realm of NFTs?

Jhekub: At this point in my digital art career, the main challenges I face are related to the tools I have yet to master. There are specific 3D programs that could make my workflow more efficient, and I'm gradually learning them. Additionally, acquiring basic coding skills would unlock significant untapped potential for my work.

One of the unique opportunities in creating art for the digital realm of NFTs is the absence of physical constraints like gravity, building codes, and zoning regulations, which are ever-present in the architectural world. This freedom allows my imagination to flourish without restrictions. As I continue to learn and integrate new tools and techniques, I feel that my creative capabilities will expand, leading to breakthroughs in what I can achieve artistically.

OpenSea: What motivated you to create on Base? How do you think Base's features will benefit your artistic expression?

Jhekub: I've been creating on Base for the past six months because I see it as a crucial layer to make Ethereum functional for everyone. The low transaction and operational costs, combined with the brilliant team led by Jesse Pollak and the continued support of my work from the Base team, make it an easy decision to build on Base. My goal is to make my art accessible to all.

OpenSea: How has blockchain technology influenced or changed the way you approach art creation?

Jhekub: Blockchain technology has profoundly influenced my approach to art creation. It has allowed me to create novel ways for people to engage with and collect my art, integrating the process into the art itself. This technology has transformed how my art is distributed, collected, and curated, making the entire experience more interactive and dynamic.

OpenSea: How do you plan to engage with your audience through your NFTs on OpenSea? Are there any interactive elements or community-driven aspects to your work?

Jhekub: Most of my NFT collections on OpenSea are designed to encourage active participation from collectors. I strive to make the collection and interaction of my art a personal experience. To achieve this, I often slow down the reveal process, as I believe the NFT space moves at an unhealthy pace. By encouraging collectors to take their time, I hope to create a more thoughtful and meaningful engagement with my work.

OpenSea: What future developments in the NFT space excite you the most, and how do you plan to incorporate these into your future projects?

Jhekub: I’m excited about how collecting art on the blockchain is becoming more accessible, and more people are beginning to appreciate the value of digital art. I look forward to continuing to help onboard new enthusiasts through the active participation encouraged in my NFT collections. This engagement not only makes the experience more enjoyable but also helps to demystify the process for newcomers, fostering a broader appreciation and understanding of digital art.

OpenSea: What advice would you give to artists who are new to the NFT space and are considering launching their first digital collection?

Jhekub: Take your time! Create something that truly showcases your talents and unique perspective based on your experiences and abilities. If you put in genuine effort without expecting immediate results, you'll gradually connect with people who share your taste and values.

OpenSea: Where do you see the future of digital art and NFTs heading in the next five years? How do you hope to contribute to this future?

Jhekub: In the next five years, I see digital art and NFTs evolving into immersive, interactive experiences within augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) spaces. Art will be more than just viewed; it will be experienced in dynamic, multi-sensory environments. I aim to contribute by pioneering these interactive experiences, blending my architectural background with cutting-edge technology to create art that is seen, felt, and lived. Through innovative NFT collections, I hope to shape a future where digital art becomes an integral part of our daily lives.
