Thanks to the MakersPlace team for publishing this article with us! If you’d like to write a guest post for our blog, let us know at contact@opensea.io.

We at MakersPlace are excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with OpenSea to bring their NFT community a curated selection of never-before-seen rare digital artworks each week for the next month. Rare digital art is digital art with authenticity, rarity, and proof of ownership guaranteed by blockchain technology. Every artist and artwork featured has been verified through a multi-step identity verification process.

Each week, we’ll present new rare digital artworks inspired by the theme of “rebirth”. These original artworks will be available for auction directly on OpenSea. The month of MakersPlace will commence with the first-ever rare digital art release from José Delbo, the illustrator behind many comic classics such as Wonder Woman and The Transformers.

This rare digital art release is especially exciting as it marks Delbo’s official debut within the rare digital art community. As the NFT community, and more specifically the cryptoart community, begins to blossom we are witnessing a pattern of well-known artists in traditional art spaces, such as José Delbo, crossing over to the rare digital art space.

The collision between traditional art markets and the world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies came to fruition in 2018, with some historical events such as the tokenization of Andy Warhol’s 14 Small Electric Chairs (1980) and the first traditional auction house, Christie’s New York,  completing their first sale on the blockchain. Today platforms like MakersPlace are intent on bringing blockchain technology to all creators and collectors of digital art.

In the past year, we’ve witnessed a number of successful artists crossing over to the world of cryptoart: A few examples include world-renowned moving image artist Terry Flaxton (whose debut 10/10 rare digital artwork sold out last week on MakersPlace in record speed for an accumulated value of $1,500+) and Vakseen, an acclaimed painter and award-winning producer who has created a number of iconic pop culture pieces on the platform. Numerous reasons for this cross-over exist, but expanding audiences, defying geographical barriers, and increasing productivity and efficiency are on the top of the list for most traditional artists who cross over to the world of rare digital art.
