Nature is one of the main sources of inspiration for my work, I have been working for 3 years with the Kamuk Collective in a photographic and sociocultural project about the Afrocostarrican population. This image was created in Manzanillo, a Natural Reserve in the province of Limón, in the Costarrican South Caribbean. I have been working at the same time in two documentary projects, one about the legacy of Marcus Garvey and the Black Star Line and the other about the way live in the Costarrican South Caribbean and the influence of the migratory processes of the Afrodecendant population in the construction of the Costarrican cultural identity. For me this image represent the power and the force of nature and how life can grow even in the most incredible places. Also for me it represents how the Afrodecendants came to our Caribbean Coast and planted the seed of their culture in our country. I created this image thinking in the words of Marcus Garvey ”A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots“
