Kappa

It is a typical Japanese waterside yokai. They are thought to be distributed throughout Japan, and yokai with various names such as Kawataro, Garappa, Shibaten, Medochi, Hyosube, and Gionbo are sometimes lumped together as "kappa". Some kappa have unique names, such as Nezako of the Tone River and Kuzenbo of the Chikugo River.It is said that cucumber is their favorite food, and the sushi kappa-maki is derived from this.

河童（かっぱ）

日本の代表的な水辺の妖怪です。全国的に分布していると考えられ、川太郎、ガラッパ、シバテン、メドチ、ヒョウスベ、祇園坊主など、様々な呼び名の妖怪が「河童」として括られる場合があります。利根川の禰々子や筑後川の九千坊など、固有の名前を持った河童もいる。 胡瓜が好物とされ、お寿司のかっぱ巻きをこれに由来しているとされている。
