The giraffe, the tallest land mammal and one of the most recognizable animals on the planet due to its long neck, is now threatened with extinction. There has been a dramatic decline of between 36% and 40% in their population size. Human population growth had negative effects on many giraffe subpopulations. Illegal hunting, loss of habitats and changes resulting from the expansion of agriculture and mining have decimated them.
