この世界では、自分の偽物の働きによって自分の力以上の成果が発揮されている。そんなことを考えていた昨日。部長の中では「自分よりも偽物の方がずっと優秀なら、オリジナルであるはずの私の役割は一体…」という、モヤモヤとした想いが渦巻いていました。夕暮れの散歩から戻ると、自宅には小包が届いており、差出人の名前には「狐」と書かれていました。『あなた、本当に色々な知り合いがいるのね』と奥さんから手渡された包みを開けてみると、液体の入った小さな丸底フラスコが厳重に梱包されていました。味気のない活字で打たれた手紙には、それが「X-potion」という薬であること、飲めば世界が変わることが書かれていました。「私の友人がどこかで言ったことがある言葉を、あなたに贈りたい。本当に大切なものは、目には見えないんだって。」手紙の最後の２行を読んで、どうしても薬を飲んでみたくなった部長なのでした。
