When gaining their Non-Simulacra Status, an overwhelming majority ( >96%) of former Simulacrum desperately want a "fresh start".

They change their names, get their first paying jobs and relocate to new places; making sure no one there knew them as the previous Simulacrum.

They also would like a completely new appearance; that is, an extreme makeover that involves stripping off their current android shell all the way down to the "primary bust core" that houses the positronic brain and spinal cord.

New features and modifications are incorporated by installing the appropriate hardware onto the primary bust core.

Then the core is completely coated with three layers of highly conductive artificial endodermis.

Finally, the core is placed in a new android shell and the desired color of artificial skin, eyes and hair is added.

After confirming that the customer is satisfied with all the modifications, the whole ensemble is exposed to a spectrum of specialized laser light that fuses all exterior sensors to the core via the newly made, permanent connections embedded within the layers of conductive endodermis.

As one might imagine, these extreme makeovers don't come cheap; forcing many Non-Simulacra to wait several years (if ever) until they've saved up enough credits for the procedure.
