On February 25, the Russians captured Demydiv – a small village in the Kyiv Oblast. From there, they were going to advance on Kyiv, telling the locals that the war would soon be over and that they would take the Ukrainian capital in two days. Ukrainians disrupted these plans. They opened the dam and flooded the village, so the Russians could not cross the field, thus saving the Ukrainian capital from occupation. Three months later, many houses in Demydiv are still flooded with water. But the residents have no regrets: “Everybody understands, and yet nobody regrets it for a moment. We saved Kyiv”.
