Stadsgezichten is a workshop initiated by artist Peim van der Sloot that gives communal new face to a city by making NFTs. Together with the artist, participants make a physical 'sticker collage' self-portrait with a little help from artificial intelligence. Each artwork is then digitized and minted on the Polygon network. Ultimately, one large collective work of art is made from this collection. All NFT holders become co-owners of this work, and any proceeds from eventual sale are directly linked back to the community where the portraits were made.
Stadsgezichten is part of the Aicon project
AICON is the AiPact initiative’s interdisciplinary project, connecting citizens, artists and researchers in an exploration of the social-beneficial potential of AI. This collaborative project focuses on empowering communities, allowing them to discover what defines their environment and how they engage with the world. It revolves around co-creation and takes into consideration cross-disciplinary concepts that do not fit within traditional databases. Ultimately the hope is that this will contribute to democratizing AI, making it understandable and accessible to communities and a re-examination of the values which define a neighborhood and its residents.
