【朝顔】

6月から10月に，青，紫，赤，白，ピンクなどの花を咲かせる。

《名前の由来》「朝の容花（かおばな）」という言葉から来ていると言われている。「容花」とは美しい花を意味する言葉で，もともとは「朝顔」は，朝に花が咲く植物を総称した名前で，その中には桔梗や昼顔なども含まれていたんだそう。現代の朝顔が他の花と明確に区別されるのは、江戸時代ごろからと言われている。
