004.Mt.Hagurosan-fivestoriedpagoda/Yamagata

The five-story pagoda on Mt. Haguro is located in a row of cedar trees at the top of the first slope on the approach to Mt. It is said to be the oldest pagoda in the Tohoku region and was built by Taira no Shomon. The present pagoda was rebuilt about 600 years ago.The pagoda is a 29.0-meter tall, five-story wooden structure with a persimmon roof, and was designated as a national treasure in 1966. Nearby is a giant cedar called "Jijisugi," which is 1,000 years old and has a circumference of 10 meters. The long eaves of the cedar are as beautiful as the wings of a swan in flight, and the towering figure is graceful in all seasons. Some people even come to see the pagoda when it is covered with snow.

004番　羽黒山五重塔/山形県

羽黒山五重塔は羽黒山参道の一の坂上り口の杉並木の中にあり、東北地方では最古の塔といわれ、平将門の創建と伝えられています。現在の塔は、約600年前に再建されたものといわれています。高さが29.0mの三間五層柿葺素木造で、昭和41年には国宝に指定されました。近くには樹齢1,000年、樹の周囲10mの巨杉"爺杉（じじすぎ）"があります。 長い軒は飛び立つ白鳥の翼のように美しく、四季を通してそびえたつ姿は優美。雪の降り積もる塔を見に来る人もいるほどです。
