An authentic banknote design for a theoretical 100,000 Satoshi note. The design is made in the style of 1970’s Latin American banknotes.
This piece was printed some time ago, but has never been released on the market, until now. It is made in an extreme limited edition of 499. (There are 500, but no.1 is in Tom Badley’s private collection).
Each NFT is backed 1-1 by a physical bill. Each bill is individually serial numbered, produced in authentic offset printing, on watermarked security paper. For every NFT purchased, the holder will receive a physical bill.
The design itself continues Tom Badley’s interest in the visual language of money and cryptocurrency, and plays with ideas of time travel and value. The purposely retro feel of the 100,000 Satoshi note recalls Latin American hyperinflation, which is also mirrored by crypto’s inherent volatility. The piece ends up being an answer to the question of Bitcoin’s brand, which lacks the heritage and history of other currencies. Where no history exists, a history can be made in the imagination of the artist. Thus, Bitcoin is naturally attractive to retro design. Here, Tom Badley uses his unique knowledge to add depth to Bitcoin lore.
