Women's reproductive rights have been a contentious issue for decades.Restricting women’s access to safe healthcare is just another way the legal system is used in a patriarchal society to reduce women to property to be controlled and regulated. From the Salem Witch Trials to the overturning of Roe V Wade, women’s oppression by the Law in the United States of America is a perfect example of the systematic oppression that disallows women to access basic fundamental rights and perpetuates structural violence against women. The overturning of Roe vs Wade is an integral part of the story of feminism – one that legitimized forced birth in a country with the highest maternal mortality rate, absence of adequate paid maternity leave, no universal subsidized child care, no continued birth parent care, and frequently inaccessible mental health care.
