Night walks with my dog Maxi are a chance to unwind and observe our surroundings in a different light. She gets to leisurely sniff her way along the edges of our path where nature meets pavement, and I get to enjoy the cool night air, and the flowers, plants, and trees along our way.

There is one rosebush in particular that I always look for in the moonlight because its roses are so wonderfully fragrant - which is a quality not all rosebushes have these days. One night, the light hit the petals of those roses just right and I took the photo that this artwork is inspired by.

I savor these moments where the quiet nights turn neighborhood botanics into inspirations that challenge the boundaries of natural beauty and artistic interpretation. ’Night Blooms’ emerges from this intersection, transcending physical and photographic limits, and is re-envisioned through the synthesis of mixed-media artistry and modern technology, using an AI model trained on my oeuvre of alternative photography, physical mixed media artwork, and hand glitched scanographic collages.

“Night Blooms” is a celebration of the natural world. The night’s ephemeral beauty is eternally captured with vibrant hues, intricate layers, and the interplay of light and shadow embodying the complexity of nature where each new seed and decaying fiber tells a story.

“Night Blooms” is a narrative of my personal artistic evolution. Each petal, leaf, and line is a testament to 20+ years of artistic self discovery, grounding my digital art practice in the roots of my physical art practice, and embracing the next 20+ years of artistic self discovery.

This piece, created in Dec 2023, is not just a visual experience but a tactile odyssey that invites the viewer to touch the night and feel the colors of the darkness. “Night Blooms” invites discovery with each viewing, suggesting a perpetual growth and transformation within the art itself, as if the roses themselves continue to grow and transform in the quiet company of the observer.
