Memories are always glitchy and incomplete. My oldest son played a video game once that featured fragmented ephemeral slices of memories that they called "helixes" in the game. That metaphor always made sense to me, so when I created this street photography series where I studied neighborhoods, I wanted to represent some of the photographs as these kinds of glitchy helixes. I wanted them to be ephemeral little wisps of memories that represented what we take with us from our experiences. We don't remember dates and times as much as puppies and fried seafood. In fact, I can literally close my eyes and remember this little fellow right now... This work was inspired by the growing iPad/ iPhone photography movement, so I headed to the Broadway Market in Fells Point because I knew that the colors and open space would offer the kindest lighting and angles. I used a 12.9 iPad Pro for most of the photographs in this series and hand drew the glitch effects on the same device.
