Trust Your Intuition

2021 This is Coldie. I want to document the story of this artwork I created

This is the story of the inception of this artwork.

I was in Old Town Sacramento. Old gold rush buildings, my vibe, for a New Years party w a friend.

I was people-watching, just enjoying the scene. Lots of people out, families, that kinda scene. I noticed this couple walk by, headed to a tattoo parlor in the basement of the building to get some ink. The pizza place is busy. Selling slices like their crack.

Then I heard a BANG. I thought it was a kid hitting a stop sign or something like that.

BANG. Now I'm seeing mothers dragging their children, fleeing. I knew something was up. Gunshots.

So I crouch behind the closest thing. I wooden trashcan. Not a safe spot.

RIGHT THEN, MY INTUITION TELLS ME 'RUN DOWNSTAIRS NOW'

My roommate is also taking cover, and I tell him im gonna get up and run downstairs. He agrees.

We go. I felt like I could get shot at any moment.

We are downstairs, in shock. the Tattoo owners looks at me to leave, like we are loitering. I give him the look of serious terror and point up. He nods and leaves us alone.

A grandma and her grandchild are also there. They are scared but I help calm them down.

LOUDER BANG BANG Ah shit. its louder and seemed closer. Wonderful. I felt ultra safe down there, but it felt like a warzone.

Cops show up. Its over.

I send love to the grandma/gson, we went through that together.

We walk up the stairs to go home. A girl right then comes running past me SCREAMING

"A man has been SHOT IN THE FACE and is inside the pizza place!. A trail of blood is proof.

That man was right next to me before we ran underground.

We drove home. In shock. We were at the liquor store in town to get beers to help us forget about the night.

While in the store, the TV is showing live at the scene interview of a witness.

Shooting at a bar across the street. Gunman flees across the street. He turns and shoots down the walkway I was crouched on. He opened fire down the walkway and hit the guy that I was in front of based on the direction he was shooting.

If I didn't trust my intuition right then, I very well could have been the other guy.

Appreciate life, every day.
