“Terra Firma”

“The beach is Terra Firma, its sand being instinctually different from the water that borders it, even though they blend so well” - The final painting in my 2020 Isolation series, this piece draws inspiration from the song “Primum Movens” by Light Bearer. Again, there is a duality in this piece, from both the title and the tones in the piece of music. In no way am I suggesting that this awful sequence of events has been a good thing, but it’s hard (and I think dangerous) to ignore how Mother Nature has been rebuilding while our dominating influence on the world has been halted; pollution levels dropping to a level not seen for decades, bioluminescence returning to the oceans and a sense of community built between us all. This piece feels as though the series has come full circle, with “Minutiae” commenting on the little things that used to go unnoticed and “Terra Firma” documenting this new age, one which is parallel to the “before” times but at the same time feels so familiar.
