"We leave behind us all our own notions of the divine. We call a halt to the activities of our minds and, to the extent that is proper, we approach the ray which transcends being. Here, in a manner no words can describe, pre-existed all the goals of knowledge and it is of a kind that neither intelligence nor speech can lay hold of it nor can it at all be contemplated since it surpasses everything and is wholly beyond our capacity to know it." - Pseudo-Dionysius, The Divine Names, 1:4.
Brother Melon is an alias from when sgt_slaughtermelon spent time in an undisclosed monastery. These are the designs that illustrate in a tech-spressionist way the insights and texts that are transcribed into the notebooks of Brother Melon. The texts sampled range across traditions, philosophical and theological interests in hopes of communicating for a moment the depth and light they contain. The designs include original ink designs that should evoke light, all over darkness as a symbol of the streaks of color and light that emerge from deep unknowing, from admission that the experience we mostly have trying to search out deep things is one of admitting we just don't know. All the same - there is illumination, and there is color.
The companion pieces to these are the brother_melon_marginalia - even more stark and simple tech/expressionist concepts that take notes from the margins of various texts as their inspiration.
