‘Nœuds‘ is an artwork speaking of curly hair and identity construction. Child of the 2000's, I grew up surrounded by straight hair iconography, and with the belief that curly hair is “difficult“, “dry“ and “bulky“. That it is better to hide it or straighten it with chemicals or heat. And finally, that every intervention on it, like detangling or simply, taking care of it, is a very painful process, source of many discords in my earliest family life.

Recently finding out about the significance of my hair for my story, my identity and my wounds, I felt the urge to exorcize it in this very personal piece of art. Now I simply wear my natural curls as they are, and I am proud for overcoming my fear of the curly.
