Helft! Powers Beyond Us changes our perspective in this series to the Axis side and looks at some World War I posters from Germany.
...
Helft! Powers Beyond Us is a reminder that by 1918, the tide had turned and while keeping its head high, Germany was outstretched, outgunned and outmanned. My collage and editing reflects the call for help from inside and the vainness of that call. Powers Beyond reference is a call for solution that will not materialize other than ending the war.
Conceptualized and created by Hulki Okan Tabak in December 2020.
Limited edition of 1. Minted exclusively on (for with by) KnownOrigin.
...
The inspiration pieces that are partly used and dramatically edited are from three posters.
The first is Helft! ... Soldatenratshilfe ... eile tut not! by Louis Oppenheim from Berlin, 1918.
The second is Freiwillige aller Waffen sichert Berlin; tretet ein in die Brigade Reinhard by Helmuth Stockmann from Berlin, 1919.
The third is Der letzte Hieb ist die 8. Kriegsanleihe by Paul Neumann from Nurnberg, 1918.
...
The historical reference of this series comes from original World War I posters. While only a century old, it is remarkable to see how mass mobilization of resources was sought at the time. In order to support the war effort, the media in general was used, perhaps for the first time, as a mass propaganda apparatus. The posters from the era reflect this mindset and shed light on similarities with today.
