Artifact Series: Beyond Whiteout by Marvin Grey collection image

Snow is one of the most mysterious phenomena I’ve ever encountered. It’s ability to completely transform a terrain has always been one of nature’s biggest turnabouts. Having been born and raised in a tropical country, the closest experience we get to snow are man-made theme parks during the holidays. Since starting my journey in landscape photography, it has been one of my goals to create a body of work that centers around winter and how it completely transforms a landscape.

I saw the complete whiteout of the land as a blank canvas, where anything is possible; and a perfect opportunity to explore my ideas of a calm but harsh landscape; of what it could look like amidst the blizzard and the cold.

"Artifact Series: Beyond Whiteout" is a culmination of my experience during my sojourns on the harsh and snowy landscape of Hokkaido, Japan.
