I haven’t stepped foot in my home country in months now. But the desert is where I have always felt my most creative, and there’s something about Wadi Rum, Jordan that tells me I’ll create some of my best work here.
Desert camping out here is nothing short of spiritual. There’s no electricity, no cell service, no air conditioning, no other human beings for miles, and no escaping the 108 degree desert heat.
This morning at sunrise, I wandered out into the desert from camp with no direction in mind, and flew the drone at a random point. From up there, I could see the sun illuminating the sand and layer after layer of rock.
One massive rock in particular sat alone in the center. It was cutting the light and shadows across the valley so drastically, the desert was a different color entirely on one side of it than the other.
A brief moment of magic before the sun rose and another sweltering day began in the desert as old as time itself.
