Long ago, a Shinto god named Inari loved nothing more than playing with his favorite messenger fox, Kubito. One night, they decided to play hide-and-seek among the thousands of orange torii at Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Shrine. As Inari began to count, Kubito darted through the torii, his sharp eyes searching for the perfect hiding spot. Despite the darkness, Kubito was still able to watch Inari from a distance. Inari weaved in and out of the torii, his sharp senses guiding him towards Kubito. But the fox was clever, and he managed to elude Inari for a while. Finally, Inari caught a glimpse of Kubito's fluffy tail and gave chase. The two ran through the tunnel of torii, their laughter echoing in the night. They continued the game, taking turns hiding and seeking, until the sun began to rise and illuminate the torii. Making their way down the mountain, Inari thanked Kubito for a delightful time, as usual. And Kubito, always eager to please, wagged his tail and bowed his head in thanks.
