The series Foodalism addresses the disconnect from the origins of the food we consume day-by-day. Global food supply chains are often based on countries far away from the point of consumption. This disconnect often leads to a disregard for the rights and needs of workers, farmers, and environments in the countries of origin, leading to further inequality and dependence. Rather than calling for a boycott of such foods, I advocate for more understanding and appreciation for the labor and resources that go into producing the food that we all rely on.

Avocados have become an increasingly popular food item over the past few years, with many people enjoying them in various dishes. However, despite their delicious taste and nutritional benefits, they require an extensive amount of water to grow, which can deplete local water sources in regions where they are grown. Additionally, their cultivation often involves the use of fertilizer and chemicals, which can be damaging to the environment. They are a high-demand crop, prompting growers to clear land and deforest areas in order to make room for more farms. This has resulted in the destruction of habitats and displacement of native species.

Numerata raises awareness for the imbalances in this world. We point out critical issues, celebrate successes, and envision a more just world through the means of art.
