I saw Warhol's Flowers at the Menil Collection in Houston, TX displayed in a manner exactly like this. Three stacked vertically, each one darker than the one above it. At the time, I was working on the concepts for the collection that would become CYBERPHUNK. In seeing this specific set of Flowers, this triptych revealed itself in my head immediately, and I pasted it together as soon as I got home. The top image is the original CryptoPunk palette, the middle is a concept that never saw the light of day- night mode Phunks. The bottom image is the genesis CyberPhunk, palette slightly different from the final. Beyond visuals, Warhol's Flowers are well known for being a subject of Sturtevant's appropriation or reproduction. Sturtevant is on my mind often since I began working in the world of derivative arts. Works like this feel like a natural next step in that same school of thought.
