This point of view is an imagined vision of JMW Turner's Beach House on the English coast. Turner's spiritual use of color and the gauzy use of light in his paintings has long inspired me. He is able to inspire the impression of movement and ethereal beauty in his work, while also remaining loyal to an objective view of history. Yet, as a contemporary painter, I can never reach back in time to understand whether his view of the world can empirically explain the collective spiritual entanglements of culture.
In this work, I imagined what it would have been like if you were staying at Turner's house on the beach during a storm of his subconsciousness. The world you were living in would suddenly become aglow with the light of spiritual enlightenment, and you would see an undercurrent of vibrant emotional energy in everything, as the ocean erupted with frenetic romanticism.
So, the point here is that no such coastline or house exists. One has to create a vivid dreamworld in order to imagine a philosophy that explains a world that we cannot see unless we create it.
