This digital artwork is a reworking of my fellow countryman Parmigianino's "Self-portrait in a Convex Mirror," and is imprinted on two main themes. First, there is the theme of harmonious coexistence between human and nature; the subject portrayed inside the mirror isn't only surrounded by plants, but the plants partially cover him, as if they are growing luxuriantly on his clothes. The convex mirror, the globe in the subject’s hand and the portrayed subject himself represent the Earth and mankind. The background surrounding the mirror is the atmosphere, which appears blue in the direction the sunlight comes from.
The second theme is based on a personal art style that I named "Iconic Dynamism". I began to develop this style, that is partly influenced by the renowned Italian art movement known as Futurism, in the early 1980s. Through this style I wanted to represent on "canvas" the range of movements performed by the bodies of living beings (and objects) occurring in distinct time spans. In fact, the subject portrayed, while being static, gives the impression that he's making a rotation (such as that which is accomplished on a daily basis by our home planet).
