Motion starts to enter the equation as we progress further. Those early drawing techniques in high level languages start to give way to more advanced ones...

Simply redrawing on the screen becomes too slow for some purposes, and so we add sprites - a more efficient way to put a player on the screen to move about, for example - and other tricks start to become tools in the toolbox.

With "page flipping" you could draw off-screen while something else was on display, then poof you could make it magically appear, already drawn. You move further beyond those humble beginnings and start reading and writing straight into the screen's memory, craving more speed.

That system you cut your teeth on had a whopping 16K of RAM back then. Upgrade after upgrade would ensue over the course of years, leading to today's systems with memory capacities around a million times bigger!
