Go ahead, steal this art. I dare you.

This painting shows what is possible when CC0 NFT projects are remixed. The hat that I’m wearing in the painting is from the Tubbycats NFT project which is also CC0: https://twitter.com/tubbycatsnft The Pepe Monkey on her shoulder is a tribute to what I consider to be one of the first NFT art projects that really created a strong and dynamic community: Rare Pepes.

CC0 is creative commons zero / public domain art: https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/public-domain/cc0/

The CryptoStellas project is cc0, along with many NFT projects like: TubbyCats, Nouns and Cryptoadz. Creative Commons has been part of my cryptoart journey, when I built one of the first creative commons crypto artist collectives, Slothicorn in 2017. Read more about Slothicorn here: https://medium.com/hackernoon/could-slothicorn-become-the-ultimate-funding-solution-for-creative-commons-crypto-artists-6ff7dbd6d44e

And CC0 is rapidly gaining popularity among NFT creators because now, for the first time in history, it can be profitable to create CC0 NFT art. For me, this realization first came when I founded Slothicorn in 2017. And then in 2022, the Cryptoadz NFT project solidified my conviction about it being possible to create a profitable CC0 project. Cryptoadz has a trading volume of 63K ETH.

More and more NFT projects are embracing the cc0 movement because blockchain allows us to properly identify the artist who created a first artwork. Look no further than the CryptoPunks derivative NFT projects for a glimpse into the future of NFTs. You can’t stop people from making derivative projects, and there is no reason that you should. Derivatives make the original more valuable, more popular and well known.

And just like Bitcoin that gave rise to thousands of alt coins, an NFT can give rise to derivatives, which in essence, adds more value to the original. Copyrights seem to be part of the old legacy system, before blockchains existed.
