My first open door helicopter flight over the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, USA. Flying in the mountains, the weather and winds are unpredictable, especially at and above 13,000'. This morning was no different. Before take off, our pilot had presented us with two options. The first option was to head south to clear skies, and less wind. The second option was to head north into the Elk mountain section of the Rockies where a 3 day storm was just clearing out. We chose to go north. Atmospherically the weather was very unstable, making for a truly dynamic helicopter flight. The challenges of capturing a clean image were compounded by this being my first time flying in the mountains. With no idea of what I would encounter compositionally, my focus had remain tack sharp. Luckily the clouds started to part just around sunrise, and we were offered this magnificent scene for our efforts.
