The little death:
a bridge between transcendence
and melancholy.
It spans blooming warmth
to cold constriction
but only goes one way
till the heat returns
and you’re back to the start.

Life is just a cycle
of these little births and deaths.
From unfurling petals
to withering leaves.
From budding novelty
to the grey mundane.

The human body replaces itself
every seven years, they say.

It’s just one more little death
and if we can’t take it
we won’t be around
for all the little births that follow.
