Toque macaques are a primate species endemic to Sri Lanka known to be incredibly human-like and intelligent. It was early morning and I had just finished working on a large panoramic of the spectacular vista in front of me in the Ella region, when I heard some commotion in tall trees carved into the hillside nearby. After following the sounds I found a family group high up and wanted to get some photos. I was able to get this perspective by climbing up to the highest floor and then roof of the adjacent accommodation building giving a unique canopy view and insight into the lives of these charismatic monkeys.

City to Wilderness Sri Lanka by Joseph Anthony collection image

City to Wilderness | Sri Lanka is a series that comes from Joseph’s second bespoke designed limited edition photobook. He was sent there on a 5 day long assignment by Nikon covering 1500 km across the island by road and rail with a brief to come back with images of wildlife and travel captured using only one lens, the new Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E. He also had time to use other lenses occasionally and set out to photograph everything from scenes in bustling market places to diverse landscapes and wildlife - both on land and in the ocean. His vision was to create photographs with a strong sense of place, hoping that the series of images would convey the diversity of Sri Lanka as he saw it in the time he was there. The journey was also turned into a film for Nikon as part of their 100 year anniversary campaign. A journey which took him from city to wilderness.

There are 90 Limited edition books available out of 100 containing 39 photographs from the assignment. 10 books have been pre sold. Six (6) photos have been selected as NFTs in editions of 15 each to go with the books. One NFT per book. There are also a limited number of book sized prints of “Stilt fishermen at sunset” that can be included on a first come first serve basis. All books will be signed and numbered according to the remaining numbers available. Personal messages can be included on request. Worldwide shipping available including to P.O. Box addresses.
