Llyn Stwlan. Nestled high in the peaks overlooking Blaenau Ffestiniog in the national park of Snowdonia, Wales, this lake is more than it seems - it's part of a giant rechargeable battery. Like a villain's lair, built within the core of the mountain itself, out of sight - the Ffestiniog hydroelectric power station. The first of its kind in the United Kingdom, at times when the national demand for electricity is low, the station slowly pumps water through a hidden tunnel system up to Llyn Stwlan from the Tanygrisiau reservoir in the valley below, and when demand is high the water is released back down, where gravity takes over and it passes through a turbine, generating enough electricity to power a couple of million homes. It's an incredible feat of engineering.

Shot with the mavic pro during snowfall, the final piece stitched together & post processed using four individual images for enhanced detail.
