AI Metaphysics is a series of 10 aesthetic-semantic experiments about the nature and limits of AI reasoning. The text-to-image algorithm Stable Diffusion XL 0.9. was challenged with prompts for which there is no plausible way of representation. The results give insights into the modus operandi of an AI model, who is struggling to create meaning in absence of anything to attach to. The series also serves as a contemporary document on the state of AI. They are witness of a historically short time period, where algorithms are already able to produce deceptively realistic results, but can still fail for reasons we cannot even think of. This is the last time we will be able to understand AI.
