Davidovich Bakery - Essex St 3.5/5
Store
A kiosk inside the Essex Street Market. Interesting set-up that utilizes space well, like a high-class airport vendor. Slick signage with nice staff. Very small drink selection but compelling pastry offerings. Hard to rank much above this given the kiosk parameters.
3.75/5
Bagel
Large bagel, double-sided toppings. The toppings are standard plus oat, with some salt kernels thrown in. The kernels themselves don't provide pop but there is a good brine on the shell. The bagel was served quartered. I spent a long time thinking about the merits of this presentation. Ultimately I like it for my personal experience as a bagel reviewer but not for a casual bagel consumer. I liked a lot of individual aspects of this bagel but it doesn't come together in a cohesive whole. It also trended tough in an unfresh fashion.
3.5/5
Cream Cheese
Served deli case cool. Decent amount and coverage, applied clean. Moderate tang, limited scallion influence. No demonstration of unique qualities.
3.25/5
The definitive bagel survey of New York City. 202 bagels reviewed across all five boroughs, with notes of distinction given to the best stores, spreads and bagels. http://everythingiseverything.nyc/
The collection is part one of "Post Clarity," a 5-part NFT series documenting "2020: Total Clarity" by creative duo Highley Varlet. During "Total Clarity," artists Mike Varley and Jessi Highet walked 260 marathons and 7,000 miles around the five boroughs of NYC over one calendar year. https://highleyvarlet.com/
