Sep 19th, 2018. 7:45PM - The road from Banff to Jasper is a memorable one. Referred to as the "Icefields Parkway" it's 230km of the most beautiful scenery in the world. There are quite a few roadside stops on this trip, but none that will take your breath away quite like Peyto Lake.

On this date, I was traveling in an 1987 Volkswagon Westfalia headed towards Alaska. It's quick stop on the side of the road, a check for oil leaks and then a 2.5km round trip hike to this incredible viewpoint. As the sunset that day, the sky lit up like only it can in the Canadian Rockies. The reflection of Peyto Lake, the presence of Caldron Peak and Mt Patterson and the seamlessly never ending layers of mountains behind them will truly take your breath away. This is "Roadside Attraction".
