"Why live in the mountains when you could live on a mountain? Perched atop the peaks of the Washington mountains are dozens of standalone fire towers. These were used for years to monitor and report on new fires and monitor smoke, now they’re maintained as shelters for hikers, skiers and other mountain lovers.
“The Mountain Hut” was captured at High Rock Lookout just south of Mount Rainier. I planned this piece for more than a year, even visiting twice only to have conditions not cooperate. In late spring 2021, I once again made the trek out and was welcomed by this scene and I finally captured a frame of the lookout lined up against the giant of the cascades.
Location: High Rock Lookout, Washington Capture Date: May 15, 2021"
