"At first glance, the image resembles the cross section of a tissue sample under a microscope - vascular bundles and the type. We see boxes in various earthy tones neatly stacked in rows, with a single veinlet gracefully winding its way across the centre of the frame.
These are in fact paddy fields cultivated at high altitudes in the Eastern Ghats of India.
This is a place I had passed through several times on my way home from photographing the scenic misty mountains of the Eastern Ghats. These marshy paddy fields seemed like an eyesore in comparison to the obvious appeal of the breathtaking alpine views. A gross misconception and all it took was a change of vantage point.
As the drone hovered over the fields, the screen transformed into a montage of intricate patterns. The terrace farming technique employed by the farmers creates a pleasing visual of tightly and rightly spaced quadrangles, giving the viewer the impression of looking at a piece of modern art.
On this trip, I went to photograph mountains and returned with something entirely different that was far superior.
I also returned with a valuable lesson. Nothing is devoid of beauty. The right perspective and an open mind are all we need."
