Portraits of The Suri Tribe by Zay Yar Lin collection image

Three years ago, I embarked on a photography expedition to Ethiopia, where I visited several villages that were home to the Suri tribes. These tribes, also known as the Surma, were very welcoming and open to being photographed for portraits. Adorned with colorful natural clay and local flowers, the Suri tribe members were a sight to behold. Women wore bracelets on their hands, adding to their traditional attire. As I roamed the village, I searched for individuals with distinct features that would make for compelling portraits. Through my lens, I captured countless beautiful and mesmerizing portraits, each one evocative and imbued with emotion. For me, portrait photography is an art that aims to elicit feelings and captivate the attention of viewers. As a travel photographer, I am particularly drawn to people photography, which encompasses both candid and portrait shots. When capturing portraits, I focus primarily on the subject's expressions and emotions, while also seeking to unravel the stories behind their unique personalities. Through my lens, I strive to tell a story and create images that convey a deeper understanding of the people and cultures I encounter.

The series of Suri portraits I have captured is a powerful representation of their emotions, culture, and the narratives that lie beneath their striking appearances. Through each portrait, I have aimed to reveal the essence of their unique personalities, while also shedding light on their cultural traditions and ways of life. The images I have created are a testament to the power of portrait photography in conveying a profound sense of human experience and expression.
