Jay Delay’s distorted virtual world view exposes a fragmented architectural composition and an avatar portrait of Synoptic removed from the context in which it was constructed. There are no contours defining the context, nor any definition of the building in its physical space. This reflects the reality of the events in these spaces. These virtual photographs also capture and isolate the participants. They help to confront the participant with his or her place in time, space and reality." VIRTUAL PROJECT : Synoptic Synoptic (QSL) is an online community where participants record their QR-code information in full color. In return for their images, participants receive personal progress updates. Only 5% of the images are permitted for image-making or QR-code printing, but other instances include digital archiving and multimedia visualizations. Participants' DNA library is central to making the project's "virtual family." The resulting methodologies can be exported and further applied to specific experiences.
This project is part of a growing ecosystem of engagement around cyberspace, and experimental research, as with Avatar Subject Specialist, to thinking about virtual world locations as places of possibility, as with QR Gate, to actual innovations, as with VR Glasses, to hyperreality approaches, a recurring theme in Hyper-reality 2012, as with the Movement Virtual and Experience Mobile experiment, a collaborative element in which every participant is able to freely move around the space in virtual reality while the researchers are able to record everything in 3D. Not to be outdone, this year's winners of the Future Thinking Award in the category of "Best Web Project: Designing Virtual Spaces" are also exploring more experimental approaches to new ways to look at virtual and augmented realities by rethinking communication in virtual spaces. These projects explore multiple perspectives on how to access and define virtual spaces in the digital age with the mission to be a hub for creative, new ways of engaging with these worlds.
"Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Maths" which includes "A Simulation-Based Method to Create Social Likelihood Models" and the "Torusx Open Systems P4D Video-Sketching Program" will join the show with more projects from a variety of artificial perspectives. The other two exhibitions at VAG: Flux - Design of the Anthropocene and Lost Machines: Technology at the Limits of Mathematics, examine the intersections of art and design, technology and sustainability.
