“One In A Million” is a tribute to Aaliyah, the American R&B legend of the 1990s whose life was tragically cut short on August 25, 2001 in an airplane crash after filming the iconic video for “Rock The Boat”. For this piece, I wanted to create a vintage tribute tee shirt-style collage, but integrated with the blockchain-era aesthetics of the present day from my “PUNK GRADIENT” series. Had Aaliyah made it through to 2021, she would be living in and reigning over the future that her cutting-edge imagery and music helped to build, but when life is cut short during youth, we are left to only imagine what could have been. RIP Aaliyah Dana Haughton, 1979-2001.
