This gif is a bit meta. South Korean people since the Korean War have been in love American culture, but they always put their own twist on it. In the internet age however, the leftist control of Hollywood has meant that Koreans aren't buying the American Dream as much as they used to. Ironically, because of the politicization of entertainment, Americans are now buying back an iterated version of American culture through K-pop because its content is seen as being more genuine. And it is.
I built a small following in South Korea randomly some years ago, but it was hard to maintain it without a presence there. I think Koreans related to my work because I am authentic in a way that current American exports aren't. They understood that I could be both Russian and American in the way Koreans also identify as both American and Korean. They related to messages of prosperity and fun, over ones of social justice and misery.
