A Symphony of Stars and the Mysteries of Mapimí's Past
The Milky Way Above Mapimí's Mines in Durango, Mexico
Nestled in the rugged landscape of Durango, Mexico, Mapimí's mines have stood the test of time, witness to centuries of human history. From the earliest days of human civilization, people have been drawn to this place, drawn by the promise of riches hidden deep within the earth. Over the centuries, the mines have yielded gold, silver, copper, and other precious metals, fueling the growth and development of the region.
But the mines have also faced their share of challenges. Flooding has long been a problem at Mapimí, and the mines have been inundated by water many times over the years. In fact, the mines have been flooded so many times that it's difficult to keep track of the exact number! Despite the challenges, the miners have always found a way to persevere, rebuilding and continuing their work even after the worst floods.
As the night falls and the stars come out, the Milky Way stretches across the sky, a celestial sight that takes your breath away. The bright stars of the galaxy seem to dance above the mines, a symphony of light and sound that fills the air. It's easy to let your mind wander as you gaze up at the stars, wondering about the mysteries of the past and all the stories that these ancient mines have to tell.
As you stand there, surrounded by the beauty of the night sky and the rugged landscape of Durango, it's hard not to be awed by the beauty and majesty of the world around us. The mines may have been flooded many times over the years, but they stand as a testament to the resilience and determination of the human spirit, a reminder of all that we are capable of achieving when we set our minds to it.
About me:
I am Alfredo Juárez, an Astrophotographer from Sinaloa, Mexico. I picked my first camera (a Konica Minolta) in high school. I felt in love with Astrophotography when I traveled 600+ miles to chase the Neowise comet back in 2020. Being there, in the middle of nowhere is a healing process for me, and I plan to continue doing it for as long as I can.
